Can ChatGPT or Claude log food to Apple Health?
Not on their own. ChatGPT's Health feature and Claude's Apple Health integration both read your data and cannot write to it. OpenAI says ChatGPT cannot "write information to Apple Health", and Anthropic says Claude "can read health data but cannot write or modify entries in Apple Health". To have an AI log a meal, a workout or your weight into Apple Health, you need an app on your iPhone that writes to Apple Health for it. This page covers the options, checked 19 October 2026. We make Marrow Health, one of them.
What can write to Apple Health from an AI chat?
| Option | What reaches Apple Health | Works with | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marrow Health, Connect your AI | Meals (calories, protein, carbs, fat, and any other nutrients the AI includes, such as fiber or sodium), water, weight, body fat, workouts and lifting sessions, sleep, symptoms, mood | ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini | Marrow Pro, $4.99 a month |
| Wellness Project | What you log in Wellness Project (workouts, meals, water, weight, vitals, mindfulness), when saving to Apple Health is on | Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and others | Free plan, Pro $9.99 a month |
| Vaultbeat | Weight and mood only, when you turn it on. Food and workouts stay in Vaultbeat | Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex | Pro, $9.99 a month |
| Apple Shortcuts, built yourself | Whatever your shortcut logs | Claude (its Ask Claude action) | Free |
| ChatGPT Health, Claude's Apple Health integration | Nothing. Read-only | Their iPhone apps | Included in their plans |

How it works in Marrow
- In Marrow, open the Export tab and turn on Connect your AI, then add it to your AI with your link (steps for ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini). Claude also lists it in its connector directory.
- On the Connect card, turn on Allow AI write. Until you do, the AI can only read.
- Tell your AI what you ate, the way you would tell a friend: "Log a chicken burrito bowl for lunch, about 650 calories with 42 g of protein." Claude and ChatGPT ask before they edit or delete, and Gemini asks before every write.
- Your iPhone applies the entry to your Marrow diary and writes it into Apple Health, so every app that reads Apple Health sees it.
Anything the AI adds can be undone, by the AI or by you in Marrow. The AI can also fix an entry ("make that 500 calories"), log water, weight and workouts, record sleep, symptoms and mood, and change your daily targets. Every sign-in is approved on your phone with a six-character code, and turning off Connect cuts off every connected AI at once.
The do-it-yourself route: Apple Shortcuts
Apple's Shortcuts app has Log Health Sample and Log Workout actions (Apple), and Claude's iPhone app adds an Ask Claude action to Shortcuts (Anthropic). Chain them and you can ask Claude to estimate a meal, then log the number it returns. It works, it is free, and it takes some building: one sample per nutrient, and nothing ties the logged numbers back to a meal you can edit later.
Why don't ChatGPT and Claude write to Apple Health themselves?
Apple Health lives on your iPhone and only apps on the iPhone can write to it, with your permission per data type. The ChatGPT and Claude apps ask for read access only. An AI running in the cloud therefore needs a go-between on the phone that holds write permission and applies what the AI asks for. That is what the options above are.
